Add it to "The List"!

Once again, our sweet baby boy has amazed us with how brave he can be!

Jack hurt his thumb yesterday at school. He "pinched" it in the fence or gate. (Jack's story is that a friend slammed it in the gate!) They called us from school to tell us that he hurt his thumb but that he was acting fine and they put some ice on it. He didn't act like it was hurting too bad last night after we got home.  He was protecting it and not using it much, but not upset or complaining too much. (This is the time I keep going back to and am very thankful that I didn't tell him to suck it up and not whine! Geeez!) It was pretty swollen so we looked at it and put an ice pack on it and gave him some Advil.  He slept great through the night and woke up not complaining too much about it again. HOWEVER, it was still pretty swollen so we decided to take him to see Dr. G! He quickly told Steven that unfortunately he thought it was broken. (This was around 10:30am) Steven and Jack headed off to Children's Healthcare Urgent Care to get an x-ray.  They said the radiologist saw a fracture and therefore he would need to go somewhere else to have it taken care of.... Steven had to beg to get an appointment today and they finally said they could fit him in at 3:00. (Keep in mind this is all dragging on with a 4 year old with a broken thumb!) They grabbed lunch and then headed to the next doctor's office. After an almost 2 hour wait, they were seen! The doctor there agreed that it would need to be cast to make sure it healed correctly. Jack got to pick what color he wanted (oh gracious!) He picked bright neon yellow!!! He and Steven finally got home around 6:20pm this evening. What a long day for a sweet Daddy and a brave little boy!  Jack let every doctor check out his thumb and touch it. He told them all the story and never got upset once. We are so proud of him! He is always such a sweet boy! Lucy was OVERLY concerned with him when he got home. She wanted to see the cast and make sure he was alright!
He has had a great night and is doing great with his cast! It's waterproof so he can get it wet (Thank goodness!) He keeps on smiling!

I am sure there is a "List" of things that all parents need to experience... so check this one off! Broken thumb...CHECK! Cast on the arm...Check!
